About
Our Continent is an independent civic research project. It makes verifiable evidence easier to use for people who write and make decisions about Europe's future.
What we believe
Europe already has the people, knowledge, wealth, and democratic tradition of a world power. Fragmentation across separate decision-making and defence systems too often prevents Europeans from using that strength.
We advocate a democratic European federation open to European democracies that meet constitutional and rule-of-law standards. Today's European Union is the most plausible starting point, not the permanent boundary of Europe.
What should be shared
A federation should handle problems European states can no longer solve well alone. Other authority should remain as close to citizens as possible.
- common defence, procurement, and command
- common foreign policy and protection of the external border
- capacity to finance strategic infrastructure, energy, and technology
- democratically accountable federal institutions
- strong subsidiarity in culture, education, healthcare, and ordinary domestic policy
Who publishes the project
Articles and data products are published by Our Continent Research.
Independence and funding
The project is not tied to a political party or movement. It is currently funded directly by the publisher, principally through hosting and the tools used to produce the work. It currently receives no grant, donor, or party funding. Any change will be disclosed here.
